Two decades of shaping Britain's built environment
Founded in 2001, merry-deer emerged from a shared conviction that architecture should serve both people and place. Our practice has grown from a two-person studio into a multidisciplinary team, yet our founding principles remain unchanged.
We believe buildings should age gracefully, adapt to changing needs, and contribute positively to their communities. This philosophy guides every project, whether we're designing a modest home extension or a major commercial development.
Our portfolio spans residential, commercial, and heritage sectors. We've completed projects in historic city centres and rural landscapes, always responding sensitively to context whilst pushing design boundaries where appropriate.
The principles that define our approach to every commission
We study the history, character, and social fabric of each site before putting pencil to paper. Our designs emerge from deep understanding of place, not imposed upon it.
Environmental responsibility is embedded in our design process. We specify local materials, maximise natural light, and integrate energy-efficient systems as standard.
Architecture succeeds when it reflects the needs of those who will use it. We involve clients, communities, and end-users throughout the design journey.
Every project begins with listening. We spend time understanding your aspirations, constraints, and how you intend to use the spaces we create. This research phase is crucial, it shapes everything that follows.
From there, we develop concepts through sketches, models, and digital visualisations. We present options, explain trade-offs, and refine designs based on your feedback. Nothing proceeds without your approval.
Technical excellence matters equally. Our drawings are precise, our specifications thorough, and our site monitoring rigorous. We stay involved until the final snag list is complete.
